Hi all, Lennart Poettering of PulseAudio (formerly polypaudio) gave a presentation on the state of audio on Linux, including an overview of PulseAudio - definitely worth a listen (Matthieu and Didier, required reading for you, I think ;) - the archive is online: http://mirror.linux.org.au/pub/linux.conf.au/2007/video/talks/211.ogg
His initial observation: "It's a mess" - too many popular low-level APIs, and no popular and widely adopted high-level abstraction layer which only abstracts hardware access. For example, it's possible to run Amarok on Phonon on gstreamer on ALSA on PulseAudio on ALSA. Phew. Anyway - interesting overview, and a decent candidate for a saviour for Linux Sound. Cheers, Dave. -- Dave Neary OpenWengo Community Development Manager Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] _______________________________________________ Wengophone-devel mailing list Wengophone-devel@lists.openwengo.com http://dev.openwengo.com/mailman/listinfo/wengophone-devel
