Some time ago, uriel asked for suggestions for werc2.0, I would like to propose some changes on applications.
For those who don't know, lately I have been developing some werc apps (smak [1] and flip [2]). I wrote them in a let-get-this-working way, but now I have learned some things and, more or less, they are being rewriten. One of the reasons is that I would like to be able to use smak and flip as stand-alone applications. For example, I'd like to use smak to generate thumbnails and local galleries (static html pages to be viewed without a web server). In this way, I could also use flip to render pdf documents on the browser. In practical terms, this means restructuring them in different scripts, so that an rc script is used to generate the content and app.rc uses that script and fits its output into werc. In fact, this is not a big problem, only moving some text between files and using some function arguments. This message is to suggest to do the same with the other werc applications. I can see the use of wman to generate a local copy of html man pages, or blagh to keep a log about anything. An extra advantage of this approach is that werc apps would work on plan9 out of the box. I have read in some todo or roadmap the intention to add to werc the option to generate static html, so I'm not sure if this would be a step on that direction or you had another path on mind. Every comment is welcomed. I have many more ideas, but I'd really like to know what the other people on the list think before going on with my mental masturbations, [1] http://hg.4l77.com/smak/ (eg: http://yiyus.info/img/) [2] http://hg.4l77.com/flip/ (eg: 4l77.com/pdf/) -- - yiyus || JGL . 4l77.com --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "werc" group.
