Follow-up Comment #1, bug #9088 (project wesnoth):

I am a frequent MP player, and do not agree with this suggestion. PMs to
players in a game should not be allowed. _There is a good reason this
functionality was implemented the way it was, please continue to apply that
reasoning._ It is all too easy to - for example - have two clients open, one
observing a game and one in the lobby.

(Sure, you could do "Allow PM's" beside "Allow observers", but do we really
need one more option in the MP creation screen? This setting should be
visible to all players, ideally in-game, not only in lobby, so everyone would
be aware of this possibility. This isn't a smart option, in my opinion.)

What is a different matter is that players in unobservable games can't
currently be contacted. This could possibly change, but even this change
isn't needed in my opinion. Players can choose (and even _want_) to be
unreachable if they want to play unobservable games. (PMs could be used for
tactical guidance, but if the game is unobservable, the value of this
guidance would be limited, and likely too general to be useful for better
players.

(NB: I am not aware of how the MP admin functions work, or if/how the admins
may contact players in unobservable games.)

Cheating is also possible by other means, which I'm not going to list here,
but I don't think giving the option for tactical counselling (for example)
through PM's should be added to the game.

(Yes, tactical counselling face-to-face or via IP telephony etc. is also a
possibility. But please do consider before opening new _in-game_ venues of
abusing the game's functionality to gain an unfair advantage over the
opponent.)

Lastly, this is not a bug, but a feature request, since the whisper
functionality currently works as intended. Also, the severity setting of this
report should probably be "minor" or even "wish", certainly not "important".
