Follow-up Comment #1:

2) is easily enough done.  I've changed the code for generating moves
appropriately.

1) puzzles me.  I have logic to do this in place, and I actually saw it work
when I gave .map extensions to every map in mainline; I don't know why it
failed in your case.  

Can you send me a copy of a campaign on which it failed so I can reproduce
the error?
