Details:
Currently users on the MP server have no in-game way to reach an admin, if
they don't (usually) know who all are admins. (And don't use irc.) An
/adminmsg private message command that would send a message to the admins
would sometimes be useful - e.g. when there's a game with an offending name,
or some other abuse.
Difficulties/problems:
- I don't think the server knows who are admins. A potential solution,
instead of logging and tracking admins, could be this. 1) The /adminmsg
messages could be stored in a log accessible with an admin query. 2) Whenever
an admin query is used, the server could in its response show the number of
messages stored, so admins would see if there are new ones. (Maybe there are
better ways to notify the admins, but the point is that the admins wouldn't
need to constantly query the adminmsg log to see if there are new messages to
them.) 3) A separate command to flush the adminmsg log would be needed.
- Potential for spamming? Can the number of messages from one IP be limited
to e.g. 5, after which further messages from that address are refused until
the log has been flushed?
- Potential for spamming in the sense that lots of people report the same
offenses, if the /adminmsg command is advertised too well.
