Details:

I know this may be a tall order, but it would probably eliminate lots of
different bugs and misbehaviours that this separation continues to cause.

--

What, primarily, prompted me to file this report was the difficulty in
getting the chatlog of a saved MP game to show.

- If you "Load" the game (from the _Single Player_ load game dialog), the
chatlog isn't available. (There are other reports about differences between
loading from a SP context vs. loading in a MP context.)
- If you load the game as a "Local MP game", the chatlog isn't available.

- So, you have to create a networked MP game to be able to view the chatlog.

(- See also the feature request / bug #4909 about the chatlog not being
available in replay mode.)

--

The implications would be, e.g., that you could chat (to yourself, i.e. "for
the record", i.e. for the replay) in SP mode, thus making notes in the
chatlog about the gameplay.
