Follow-up Comment #3:
I've added a warning about this bug to INSTALL and a recommendation to use
gcc 4. Marking it Wont Fix as I don't think it's worth a lot of effort to
support a down-version compiler at this point, but it's possible other devs
may decide to put time into it.
