Details:

If a unit doesn't have an animation specified, like a victory, death,
selected or healed animation, then the game apparently uses the base frame of
the unit (presumably when automatically generating such an animation?) instead
of the standing animation.

This is especially clear if you for instance try to create a unit with full
directional animations (including standing): there will be lots of glitches
when the unit suddenly flips to the base frame when selected, in the end of
combat or when healed, instead of playing its standing animation (facing the
appropriate direction) when there's no WML-specified animation to use.

The fallback animation should always be the standing animation, if there is
one. If not, then using the base frame is obviously the only possibility.
