Details:

When "skip AI moves" option is turned on for 1.4.1+svn, if an AI-controlled
unit moves from one hex to another to attack other unit, it will leave a
trail of itself in its original hex until its  (and the defender's) combat
animations finish. That trail may disappear before the animations finish in
case of an event forces the original location hex to be updated, such as a
mouse over by the user during the combat display.

This is known to happen across all 1.4 branch revisions/releases at the
moment.
