Follow-up Comment #2, patch #1100 (project wesnoth):
Retested and it doesn't work as well as I thought. If an overlay is not
present at the time of saving, it won't be recorded in the savefile. The
thign requires a more subtle show/hide mechanics than I have now, so it's
still unstable.
