This is probably thread-safety problem not related to vista.
@no0ne: Do you have multi-core CPU in your both computers? If yes try to set
cpu affinity to single core for wesnoth when you run it and see if crash is
less frequent.
Affinity setting can be changed using TaskManager programs tab.
