Follow-up Comment #1:
They AMLA (After Max Level Advancement). If you look at the unit's
description you can see that they don't advance to a new type anymore. Also
the XP bar is purple instead of blueish/white.
Check the "Gameplay" -> "Experience and Advancement" section of the in-game
help.
