Follow-up Comment #1, bug #12803 (project wesnoth):

Further details:

1. Removing the [fire_event]s from that [command] doesn't prevent the crash.

2. Changing the spawned event from name=select,recruit,recall,side turn,menu
item ai_controller to name=select,recruit,recall,side turn does prevent the
crash.
