Follow-up Comment #2, bug #10978 (project wesnoth):
A debug-mode option would not have effect until the WML for the campaign
scenarios was preprocessed again (e.g. when reloading the saved game) and the
scenario events were all replayed from the very beginning.
It would be just like changing the difficulty= root attribute in a
start-of-scenario (*not* turn 1 autosave) saved game.
In other words, I don't see any real need for this in Wesnoth, and it can
only be a maintenance burden, not a real feature, since it will mess with
both the gamestate _and_ the preprocessor in forms that Wesnoth was never
designed to react to. People debugging a campaign are free to modify the
start-of-scenario save after decompressing it. If decompressing it seems to
be much trouble for them, they can disable Compressed Saves in the Adv.
Preferences menu.
