Follow-up Comment #1:
Get a faster computer, or move off of Vista to a competently-designed
operating system.
I know that sounds dismissive, but I can't reproduce multi-minute lag times
here and my test hardware is several years old - by no means the latest and
fastest. Therefore this is not a generic Wesnoth problem but something local
to your machine and/or operating system.
Without the ability to reproce this probklem, and the time the response as we
try various performance tweaks, there is not much we can do about this.
