Follow-up Comment #6, patch #1302 (project wesnoth):
Alright, here's a new version of the patch. This version uses the algorithm
from the code (I haven't tested versus an in-game screenshot becasue ToD
issues make that difficult, and 'cause I'm lazy, but I've tested the script
and it produces reasonable-looking results). This version also has a
luminance- rather than average-based method thrown in (activated by the '-l'
flag), mainly out of curiosity on my part. The new method is actually much
worse than the old one in practice, but I figure it's worth it to leave
around so that others curious about it can see that it doesn't work. I still
suspect that a *slightly* weighted average might produce "better" results
perceptually, but I don't think that it would actually be noticeable, and I'm
not about to push for changes.
Of course, this new version is also against the latest svn.
