Details:
The Problem:
When playing a replay, there is an option to play a side, or play a turn.
However there are times during a replay when you want to pause the turn and
look around the map, or check on unit stats during the middle of playback.
The current system does not allow this.
This is also true when viewing a live match or joining late as an observer,
there are times when you want to pause the game to be able to look around the
map and examine units during the nonstop playback of unit movement and
attacks. The current system of 'pausing' is done by right clicking the
playing field, or entering a menu. This fully stops any animation currently
happening, even in the middle of a move or attack, but it blocks the user
from doing anything else until the menu is closed.
The Suggestion:
My proposal for a feature of 'Pause Playback' would be to stop the continuous
animation after the current unit attack is finished. This would then allow
players or observers to click on units to see their health and defense on
tiles, as well as be able to look around freely instead of being camera
locked to the action.
The feature could effectively replace the 'menu pause' trick, and allow
players and observers to study the map and units in more detail during the
middle of a turn or multi-turn playback. There are also times when a player
must leave their keyboards, and this feature would provide a more official
method of doing so.
There should be some sort of indication or reminder on screen that the
playback paused, but it should not be obtrusive or obstruct view of the
playing field or game data. The user should also be able to 'pause' when
there is not currently any playback happening as well. This would allow them
to go AFK and return to the game just like they left it, and to look around
before they resume playback.
Notes:
This feature request as it currently stands should not impact the gameplay of
any of the other players (by stopping them from playing) and should not impact
the timer. This suggestion is only for a method of stopping the continuous
replay (playback) of movement and combat so that players or observers can get
a better idea of whats going on in the middle of a long battle, or go AFK
without missing out on moves that were made.
The data bar at the top of the screen with unit upkeep, total units, villages
and such would preferably be updated after the last unit animation had
finished, so that it was accurate during this paused state.
