Follow-up Comment #1, bug #17350 (project wesnoth):
side_for= is completely incompatible with [option] and [text_input] (unless
side_for= happens to be the current side, but then it could have been
omitted). I would have bet that the engine tested for this particular error,
but a quick glance at the code doesn't bring anything up. I guess I will add
an error message.
Just to stress the point: they are incompatible, and they can't be made
compatible, given the current engine architecture/philosophy (that is, only
the current side acts).
