goal was simply to make it properly. Maybe such topic shouldn't be public on
the forum? */

Dear Forum,

Some concerns recently arose amongst few of the multiplayer moderators about
the way banning works. The method currently used, is to ban a whole subnet (à
la 192.X.X.X) to keep a single troll out of the garden. As you can
extrapolate, this method has the inconvenience to exclude most of the troll's
ISP thus putting out peoples who has nothing to do with the 8 hp regenerating
beast (as it recently happened).

The easiest approach suggested to revolve around the issue would be to allow
registered users to bypass the subnet ban.

So far, the idea has the approval of Mystic_x, jb and Soliton. IMHO, it would
only requires some reordering of the accepted connection conditional. Also, I
guess that a default message suggesting to register on the forums should be
displayed as directions for any newcomers from the banned ISP.

There might be some (un)foreseen problems with such a security behavior which
I'd happily discuss if you wish.

Moderatingly yours,
Natasiel.
