Follow-up Comment #3, patch #2618 (project wesnoth):

as requested, adding a workaround for changing turns at the beginning, so it
sets the number of turns of correct difficulty. 

As for gold amount, it also works, but the gold amount is rounded to the next
value on the gold slider (multiplies of 25, i.e. 120 on easy becomes 125, 90
and 100 on hard, normal become 100). I could fix that as well, but I'd rather
work on a code that has chances of inclusion than hacking endlessly ;-)
