Follow-up Comment #1:
Can't reproduce.
[role]role= is removed upon processing the [role] tag and only used for
determining the role to assign; any existing roles are (should not...) be
taken into account (unless the wml specifically tells to do).
In your case both saves recall 4 Elder Wose_alt for me like they should.
