Follow-up Comment #1, bug #18667 (project wesnoth):
Did you try recruit="" ?
Attributes without a value are invalid wml I think. The emacs mode complains
about it however, and in lua wml tables it's also a syntax error.
Code of set_recruit didn't change so it's probably a side effect of the
config or variable class changes.
