Follow-up Comment #3, bug #18856 (project wesnoth):

I can reproduce the lag with the attached save and I find it annoying. It
seems that the standing animation is played between the enemy unit death and
the guardsman's leveling animation. Note that the time the standing anim takes
depends on the "accelerated speed" setting. Until the guardsman has finished
leveling, attack-commands for other units are ingnored. (This is what's
annoying.)
