Follow-up Comment #1:
Unfortunately, this is not (yet) possible due to limitations of the GUI
framework (GUI1) used by the Add-ons Manager in production. Porting it to GUI2
would presumably allow us to do this and much more, but at this time it would
also introduce many new bugs, and it's not feasible for 1.12 in any case -- so
I'm marking this as Postponed.
