I originally submitted a description of this feature request on the forum,
which you can find here: http://forums.wesnoth.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=41275
The updated user interface in 1.12.0 allows the user to easily see unit
information thanks to "tool tips" that appear when the mouse hovers over a
relevant section of the unit stats.
Currently, all but one component of the unit description is available as a
tool tip. The following pieces of information are available in tool tips in
1.12.0:
-Unit Type
-Unit Description
-Alignment
-Details for each attack type
-Resistances
-Experience modifier
-Movement costs for each terrain type
-Level and advancement info
-Defense modifier for the terrain on the current hex
The only piece of information that is missing from the tool tips (but
contained in the help file) is the terrain defense modifiers for all terrain
types. If this information were to be added to the tool tips, then the user
would have a complete description of the unit (basically, the full list of
information from the help file) without needing to open the help file itself.
I attached some graphics to help describe this issue. There is also a more
in-depth discussion available in the forum thread that I linked above.
