At the very least campaign designers should be encourage to say
something about the difficulty of their campaign in the description
that can be viewed from the campaign selector. TB and SG both do.

Personally, I'd rather see South Guard remain as a beginner's
campaign and keep a separate tutorial.
Related to this idea: Would it be possible to list "campaign
difficulty" in the campaign viewer next to the campaign name? If
so, we could sort the lists by campaign difficulty, placing the
easier campaigns at the top, making them attractive first choices.
I agree that South Guard is an excellent first campaign, and I'd
love to see this made intuitively obvious to new users.

I support making the hero marker "standard."
Ultimately i'd like to see the unit taggable in the unit's CFG and/
or the scenario file and let the GUI display "hero" status
automatically. I believe it should be used both for standard and
custom hero units.
The tutorial may need a lot of work, but SG wasn't designed to be a
real tutorial, (though it has some tutorial elements in it if you
play on the easiest level.) Ultimately i think there should be a
tutorial for each of the 6 factions. Maybe the concept of Tutorial
should be expanded. If there was a "Choose your tutorial" dialog I
could see SG being last on that list as well as being listed in the
"Campaigns" dialog.
It should be possible to make something that's much better as a
tutorial than SG, since SG is really intended to be a beginner's
campaign. A tutorial (in my mind) needs to go out of it's way to
explain a lot more.

Agreed. Now, would this mean making The South Guard into the
tutorial,
or removing the tutorial button altogether? Both are possibilities
- the
former requires more work, but I guess it has the advantage of
keeping a
semblance of a tutorial.

The main candidates here are Under the Burning Suns and South Guard

I think that we should consider removing our current tutorial and
replace it with South Guard. I think South Guard provides a better
gentle introduction to the game than the current tutorial.
Agreed. I've already done this for Eastern Invasion.
Of course, if we're going to make it universal, we should probably
move
the hero-marker.png graphic into a universal location - perhaps
images/misc/. Right now there are duplicate copies in The South Guard
and Eastern Invasion.
I also think we should try to use the "Hero Marker" concept in all
official campaigns.
