Recently, we've had a new forum member sign up who's been actively pursuing
merchandising (http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=28847) with a
very well-stocked cafepress store, and who has been asking in open forum and by
PM with myself, I don't know about any other artists about whether he can
obtain high-resolution copies of artists' work for T-Shirts etc.
I recognise that the licensing allows him to do this (I think - but AFAIK it
doesn't oblige us to share anything other than the versions included within the
game), but I wonder whether this should be a driver for us to think about our
own merchandising options.
Currently, I feel that this is up to the original artist as to whether they
wish to provide hi-res versions - I'd certainly prefer to offer our own
merchandise, or start up my own store, rather than let someone who, quite
frankly, I don't know from Adam have high-resolution copies of my work to sell.
I have raised this issue on IRC and on the forums as well, I hope that we can
find some official answer to supply.
