It's come up as part of the GPL/Appstore discussion, which i really don't want
to derail with discussion of this issue, or indeed know enough about to
participate in in any meaningful capacity.

So I'll keep my nose out of it.

However, I think the issue of donations is an important one to consider
separately. I don't know well enough to comment, the reasons for not taking
donations in the past. But I wonder whether, since incorporation and other
things have happened, we might be able to start.

We've had a few people asking, and until recently answered varied from 'you
can't' to 'commission someone privately to do some work' to more recently 'buy
the iPhone version'. It strikes me that the situation is different now, in
that a: Wesnoth is commissioning people as an organisation to do artwork and b:
there's an established precedent for the project accepting money to plough back
into development.

There have only been a small minority of people asking about donations. But
every little helps, and in my experience small vocal minorities are often
backed by larger, silent minorities.

Should we consider an unobtrusive donations button/page, for those who wish to
give money to a project they know is run (almost) entirely by volunteers? Or,
indeed, an optional paid (maybe pay-what-you-want, as I understand the Humble
Indie Bundle did) version of the game for the currently-free platforms?

Thanks
