The following bug was recently submitted https://gna.org/bugs/?19927
In it, the submitter points out that the aquatic villages look like this in game: Owned Village (Shallow Water). He reasonably wonders why it doesn't have the word village in its parenthetical description. It made me realize that "village" is an overloaded term in the game. It is used both to name terrains that give income and to name terrains with specific movement and defense characteristics. For most villages, these two uses match. They do not for the aquatic villages, which give income without having the movement and defense values. I believe there are also a few UMC terrains which have the defense values but not the income (see also this terrain proposal from an artist two years ago which would have probably created a village defense but not income terrain in mainline if it had been accepted: http://forums.wesnoth.org/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=32389). I therefore propose that the village movement/defense terrain type be renamed so that the two concepts are separate for players. I suggest the term "Building" for this new name. The renaming would prevent the confusion experienced by the user for the aquatic villages, since they look less like buildings. If such a change were made, then the windmill terrain in game should also gain the terrain type. This would also be beneficial in reducing confusion since the village windmill and the non-village windmill would now have the same movement and defense values, making it easy to understand what the terrain would do defensively at a glance. It also provides a new tool for multiplayer map makers, since there would be a mainline terrain with village defense properties that does not also provide income. This may be useful as an alternative to castles where good defense is desired and allow the placement of terrain that weakens bats. On the downside, windmills in existing multiplayer maps would have to be removed to avoid balance problems. The collection of non-village building terrain could also be expanded by adding the ruined village images already present as building terrains. _______________________________________________ Wesnoth-dev mailing list [email protected] https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/wesnoth-dev
