The reason for the addition of the new string is adding a new lang which of course has to be listed in the credits. The lang is a transponation of the english lang, basically transforming it into a chars that stand for the phonetic stuff. The new string is: "English (Shaw) Translation" [1] Beside this the font string had to be changed, though this one seems to be nicely handled by pofix.py (like the myriad of typo fixes that took place). Please check the font string anyway to make sure that everything is correct there. Beside this the freeze is still active and it is still not clear when 1.8 will be ready, though it looks like it will be taking a little longer due to the *huge* amount of known bugs.
