Hello

I received the following information from Den Haag, Netherlands about my
ancestor.
I looking for help how to go about start looking for him.
Johann Christoffel Breijdenkamp (of Herfort Zol), nr. 329 on the payroll,
traveled with the ship "Lekkerland" (Chamber Amsterdam) as a soldier, pay 9
guilders a month. He received a "transport" (a loan to pay his equipment) of
250 guilders (he had to pay that back from his earnings to the VOC). The
ship departed on June 3, 1763.
On Dec. 23, 1763, he came ashore at Cape the Good hope, because of
"indisposition". He stayed at the Cape and worked as a soldier. In the years
1764-1778, he earned 108 guilders a year.
On Dec. 8, 1778, he received his "burgervrijdom", so he became a free
citizen.
Maybe you can find him in the "vrijboek" of Cape the Good Hope in the year
1779, on fol. 136 that is what the payroll says.
Now you know for sure that he came from Herford, so maybe you can make
inquiries there.

Can you tell me how to start looking in Germany and what is the meaning if
they say Herfort Zol

Tank you

Marthie Bredenkamp
