Christine,I am sure the other ladies will realize sooner or later they need to
participate and will avail of themselves.Self determination starts at any
stage........Einstein  did not demonstrate any significant achievements or
aptitude in his early life but emerged to be in my view the greatest scientist
of all time.....different people make different achievements in any area e.g
sports,academics,etc !!!

I urge you to take the lead as an example that indeed it is
possible........offer yourself to leadership on this committee,we'll draft
others as well in this committee ! The only way we'll judge any one's
capacity....they must present their ideas and we see and it is us to determine
whether or not we can choose you....do not assume for yourself you don't have
the qualities.

Ejiku......thanks for the comments but Christine in her earlier presentation
was trying to underate the capacity of our female colleagues.....by playing
second fiddle to men and assigning the back sit which I do not agree with !

Willy.......I haven't talked to you for a while but congratulations on your
attainment of a Ph.D,well done.

Milton

This sounds more of an individual domestic issue full of bitterness and
regrets. Remote control in the living room, eating trash from the kitchen,
etc.... Eh!

Subject: [WestNileNet] The African woman

Hi Afi,

Was that written by an African woman or one from somewhere else.

What I think is that majority of African women want to receive and not to give.
Let them tell African men what in turn they have done other than that talk and
often gossip about men, latest fashions, hair styles, soap or series, cars for
'women', parties, tabloid stories etc. A visit to the Kitchen these days
reveals alot and our poor children are now starving or eating trash. Why should
African men fight over a mere remote control in their living rooms, when the
next door bar can offer effortless viewing to suit your choice. Just yesterday,
we agreed that women in general need to get a bearing and end this over
reliance like Queens. So for every point raised let each one of us put an
African woman there and it tell me your eyes are not wet yet.

Why should these women want to impose their wishes and not respect the freedoms
enshrined in universal declarations. I have read their indictment of African
Men and I feel if the other side of the coin was revealed would bring about a
world war IV. We are already fighting WW III as you may all be aware.

Good luck to those who parochially see the role of others and not theirs.

Ejiku

My dear brothers,
Thanks for all your ideas. I like such healthy debate and arguments. I really
dont like affirmative action. Look at all positions created for women in our
government structures, have they yielded any fruits? I am not sure. Therefore,
ladies should liberate themselves using the education that there parents have
given them.

I dont even mean to say that women should undermine men, when they get the
slim chance. what I mean to say is we are all equally important to each other
and we should work mutually. Leadership should be on merit not on sex or
gender. If for example I dont have qualities for the post, period! I dont
deserve it. So when we are selecting it must be on merit. The bussiness of
putting women incharge of food when even there are better male cheffs, or
putting a woman as a chairperson to please gender is what I dont believe in.
Yes the list of brialiant women in Uganda is long. Look at Winnie, she is an
engineer and must have done PCM, Specioza must have done PCB subjects
supposedly for men. This means they were determined females right from day
go. Self determination starts at early stage not when we are now graduates and
you give me a post to appease gender, I will remain useless until my term ends.

So please, if you have daughters, dont tell them "A is for boys, B is
for girls".Dont only buy baby girls dolls but car toys, helicopters etc.If
you get your wife telling your son,"boys dont cry, dont cook, dont fetch water"
etc. "Girls role is in the kitchen, secretaries, nurses, or house wives" please
shut her up. Many behaviors we are portraying are things told to us by
mothers. By this we shall save our next generation. I am afriad we may not do
much with the current generation. Equality is taking responsibility not just
standing next to a man and saying we are equal. If I cant contribute towards
food at home, children's fees, rent, utility bills or the construction of the
family house, it becomes difficult for me to say we are equal, on what basis?
So women should wake up and start taking up responsibility. It is suprising
that in the villages or in the suburbs where many people are unemplyed, the
women actually take charge of the
 family in
almost everything but in the cities, the elite ladies are running after men's
landcruisers, pajeros, BMWs in exchange for goodies. Yet many of these ladies
could actully afford if they were focused. Look at our women selling papyrus in
the cities, many of their husbands do nothing but they are the adored family
heads.I am sure many of us were paid by our mothers or other women but it is
unfortunate such women dont get recognized. While you mention those women who
always appear on  Newspapers, I have regard for all those poor women in the
villages who take sole responsibility of their families with no recognition and
are suffering abuses silently. That is why I get annoyed for Patriachy. let us
give credit where it is due. Efforts both by women and men must be appreciated.
We are all human beings.

So Milton, what happened to our ladies in the committees? were they abscent or
not qualified?

Christine

Hi Milton,

What has Queen Elizabeth really done?? Just joking given that she can't even
dress herself and has to be helped to do so. Do you know how difficult women
find gomesi to put on? They will need the assistance of four other women and
that is where the real problem starts.

Otherwise I think Christine was spot on and our ladies need to get out and
claim their rightful place ofcourse next to the men.

Thanks my friends.

Ejiku
