Mr. Ejiku, This morning when i woke up in disbelief of the figures, the first thing i had to do was to look at papers again. Such figures are not only blue prints for danger, they are clear manifestations of a region destinied for collapse. We can be sure there's now a generational gap....i'm worried there will be no people to take over from you guys. You've put before us one of the most profound challenges of our time. Today's figures are not in isolation; you remember what the H/H said during Mvara day....that in the whole region, we will 9 teachers as per this year's school practice assessments.
Therefore, is there a single bullet to fire this out of our region? No! It will take time, commitment, sacrifice, power, and holistic approach. We urgently need leaders who understand the magnitude of the problem not the type same New Vision reported about a few days ago. From WENIRUDA's point of view, we've put in place GreenMango Scholarship, a regional scholarship initiative with academic excellence being the main criteria sought. We are piloting in Vura and Ayivu an ambitious Integrated Rural Kinter Garden Programme where community nursery schools are being established in selected sub counties. The goal is to have nursery schools in all West Nile parishes if funds could allow. If anyone is interested in setting up one in their parish, we can provide technical assistance, it doesnt cost much! Lets ponder in action however little it may be! Although the data presented was inconclusive, the signs are clear that public university entry by students from westnile is very low. Just look at the statistics as presented yesterday although I could not quickly make out Nyapea; Position School Gov't private 133 Mvara 3 71 227 Ombaci 2 33 247 Muni Girls 1 30 260 Arua Public 28 326 Ediofe Girls 21 357 Uringi 20 424 Metu 14 467 Maracha 12 507 St Charles Lwanga 1 10 749 Nebbi Town SS 5 767 Adjumani SS 4 803 Moyo Hall 4 812 Ombatini 4 826 Vura SS 4 Totals 7 260 I still believe that these figures are not accurate but it is still a bad state of affairs for our region. Could we have someone with access to proper figures correct the figures otherwise we are doomed as a region. Do not forget and start celebrating admission to private sponsorship bse most of the parents wont afford the high tuition being charged by these public universities let alone upkeep. Over to you to ponder over. Ejiku
