To add some spice , salt and juice to what Caleb and Ejiku have have said, I would like to encourage all of us to to look at a few positive things that have happened in the year 2010.
a) Task Force on Education, that understook study on poor performance on schools in West Nile region. Although this was not done in all the districts, the sample reports tells so much about the school system in the region and why students are not doing well in the schools. b) A few OB Associations that poured into a few schools to challenge the youth to study harder and smarter c) University students toured a few schools in the region to address problems of poor performance in schools d) Public University Commitee working behind doors to start university in Arua e) Science Cafe taking challenge on public health education f) Doctors coming coming out to give free lectures on health issues g) Lawyers coming out to give lectures on estate Law h) Adressing road accident and public safety with bus operators i) Addressing legal problems of farmers with BAT & eventually WENRECO j) Registering WNF with NGO Registration Board in Uganda, which took six months k) Preparing technical Documents of WNF & Strategic Plan l) Fund raising activities at Club Palui for WNF m) Preparations for Cultural extravaganza to show case cultures in West Nile Region o) Family get together , which offer opporturties to meet and talk some of the issues we discuss If you have another beatiful idea(s) to try, please come forward, let's try whatever we think can work. We have laid a foundation to run WNF as a professional organization, which should eventually be in a position to recruit qualified staff to run the daily activities. Hopefully, this may be a place some people may work if we all join our hands to make it happen or work well. I would like to remind us that Rotary International is an organization run by professionals like us all over the world who sacrifice a few minutes or hour(s) of their time to help people around the world. How much has Rotary changed the lives of people around the world? I hope most of you read an article in the New Vision a couple of weeks ago where Rotary Club in British Columbia donated over $200,000 medical equipment to Arua Hospital. Remember that West Nile Community Association has been active in Kampala for more than thirty years (30), apart from social gatherings, it never did anything beyond this scope. Whatever ideas you have, let us re-shape the way we operate or function. While socializing is great, let us elevate WNF for social and economic developement of the region. Bring your great ideas to the table. Lead an activity when you think you can lead. Instead of looking at the negative past, let's look at the bright future. WE CAN NEVER CHANGE THE PAST BUT WE CAN CHANGE THE FUTURE. LET US CONTINUE TO INSPIRE OURSELVES TO DO BETTER, CHALLENGE OURSELVES TO WORK AS EFFECTIVE TEAMS.
