*Alcoholism and alcohol addiction * It's wonderful that this day went very well. Alcohol addiction is a global problem in many countries.
I think local community effort like the Science Cafe is more effective in addressing this problem than govenment intervention. Theres is a famous organization known as Alcoholic Anonymous (AA) in North America. http://www.aa.org/lang/en/subpage.cfm?page=1. They educate alcoholic addicts just like Science cafe did. I think the community action model will be more effective than legislation. All govenments around the world have vested interest in collecting taxes from a) Breweries b) Bars c) Beer or liqour retailers (Vendors). If the cafe' were a funded program, it would perhaps be a great idea to expand the program right into the villages or sponsor talk show programs to educate the community on many of the great ideas coming from these workshops.
