As most of you know, I am not on the ground to coordinate most of these proposed ideas/activities.
As people of good will, I assume some of you on the ground can lead, take initiative. The book drive is very simple project, requires very little effort in coordinating it. All we need is for someone/voluteers to work with our religious people ask them to announce book collection , especially books people may not need any more. The reading culture tragedy alluded by Christine is quite true. For children coming from homes where the father or mother can not read, there is no role model. The only time children can read is perhaps at school. The same is true for parents who spend most evening in the bar or lachui joint. Before the OB scenario became vivid, one idea I had proposed was profession going to some of these schools and talk about their careers. This truly motivate the kids. If we can encourage information week where guest speakers come and talk about different careers, the kids are more/better prepared. Unfortunately, OB strategy has been in Mbara, Ombaci, Muni girls. This excludes hundreds of newer schools in the villages. I have never heard of OBs going to schools like Ombatini, Maracha ss, etc. What about schools with NO OBs? Our biggest weakness as agroup is that when we start something, we do it once, never repeat it or simply keep talking without actions.
