Dear Folks, I find it amusing, perplexing or even disturbing that an outsider would come and tell you your house stinks. Why can't you clean it up?
Nonetheless, in Biology or chemistry, there is a scientific assertion that when you stay in a place that stinks for 5 seconds, your nerve cells get so saturated that you will not smell anything after those 5 critical seconds. So everything looks, smells, appears so normal to you. If you have ever lived outside Uganda since 1980's you know what it means to be labelled as a foreigner whose has NO RIGHTS in your host country. If you ever went to Zaire, now DR Congo, I am sure you cannot forget the experience with the SUDAS. If you lived in Sudan, now South Sudan, I am sure there are experiences where people/citizens told you are a foreigner, do not belong here, or go back home. If you ever lived in Kenya in the 80's, am pretty sure you had a fair share of abuse because you did not have "Kitambuliso" or you were labelled as "Mukimbizee or Wakimbizee". Perhaps those of who made it to Kenya cannot forget the memories when Mr. Arap Moi gave orders to arrest any Ugandan in 1987, depot them to the border while leaving their children in schools. Many Ugandan teachers and Dr.s ended up leaving Kenya for South Africa including some well known Dr.s from West Nile I know personally. If you ever lived in Tanzania, you very well know how patriotic they are, unified under their "Ujamaa" villages. The reason I am saying all this nonsense is that we Ugandans lost PATRIOTICISM may be due to so much fighting & tribalism we experienced during the years of wars. May be there is so much we need to learn from our neighbors. Understand why they are so patriotic than us. They will not tolerate foreigners roaming around in their country despite the professional talents Ugandans offer for them. There is so much lessons to be learned in the way our neighbors perceive Ugandans!!!
