John,
I can't dispute 'Our' Late father's efforts in Logiri and later as county chief
of Vurra. I am a product of his wisdom as I witnessed occasions when he often
then visited and addressed us at Anyavu Primary School.
About the monetary contributions, it is a welcome. However such a move really
needed to materialise after modalities (concepts) for the proper use of the
money are developed. Otherwise how will the money be accounted for. The
accountabilities would not only mean what the money was spent on but were the
expenditures worthwhile.
Thirdly, being on the boards of one or two schools, I really feel that part of
the fundamental problem is really not structural but the laxity of fellow
parents, who feel that education must come in cheaply, yet the standards have
already been raised countrywide and globally. Compare what tuition and boarding
fees of Ugx.200,000/= per term in most of our schools can afford with an
average Ugx.800.000/= in the good performing schools!
To me in-so-far-as we continue to sing about our poverty and do nothing about
improving our conditions we shall remain at the low ebb of education, even if
all the forum members contributed US$1,000/= each.
Such contributions should therefore be contextualised and eventually
conceptualised to oil a strategy to cause change in our community attitudes and
duties towards children and their education.
True, the economic opportunities have increased and too, have the alternative
expenditure slots. What then can our communities forego for the benefit of
childrens welfare?

Mr. Adiga Godi, thank you very much, and I hope you know the late William
Achile who was so concerned about community development, to the extend that
when we wanted school fees as his own children for Gods' sake he was tired of
paying school fees. From him I learnt that for any development to happen in a
community like West Nile we need sacrifice of individuals, just like what you
have done. The ball is now in the hands of the commitee and many other
participants in this net.  If you don't know how you can save $500.00 or more
for the sake of education in WN, just reduce the no of bottles you normally
destroy every day by 10, for a month you will surely give this or more to the
cause of  education in
WN. One other thing I personaly learnt from my late father is that, when he
was the Sub County Chief of Logiri, he would ride his bicycle to schools to
encourage the pupils a thing very few people do with their motorcycles fully
serviced and maintained. just imagine the sweat and tiredness he could go
through. We need to learn from our past heroes who lived by example. Bravo
Adiga, I hope to see the committee walking the excellent ideas as we wait for
more monetary resources. Plse if you find your self too tired up with duties
use the student associations from other Universities to advance your objectives
while seriuosly demanding good naccountabilty of these funds.  Anguyo John

Dear ALL,
In my opinion by writing more and more of the same, we are adding to the same
NOTHINGNESS. NOW is time to START.
Let us start by collecting some money that wil open the gates to more
responsible and resonable discusion of how this money collected can be used to
improve the education discusions. I PLEDGE the first $ 500.00 to open an
account in one of the banks in Arua. Give me a name of a person or a committee
accountable to receive the money. ALL people writing on this forum are being
CHALLENGED to CONTRIBUTE. Put your money in this new account and then have BIG
RIGHT TO WRITE some thing as long as you wish.
CONTRIBUTE or HOLD YOUR WRITING!
Thanks.

Dear Moses and John, Like most people on this forum, I have been following
discussions silently. But with the recent (or is it for the many times again)
education dilemma in WN, indeed is a concern to all. And I like your challenge
to the intellectuals. While it is too much to ask of any of them to leave their
current jobs to "help" in the regional education, considering a paying position
in the university will be an added sense of belonging. As I read numerous
postings on this forum regarding the troubling passing grades in the region,
many thoughts roll in my mind. Of course we are proud of our brothers and
sister holding PhDs, but we do not necessarily need that for the basic things
that each of us can do. For our young intelligent upcoming students to benefit
from this university, we need to
 start raising the bar from
primary schools. We know about the OBs and OGs of secondary schools, what
about for the primary schools? Because it is in primary level years where kids
are developmentally vulnerable - problems at home affecting their progress,
confusing decision making capability, lack of interest, and other forces, just
to mention but a few. While we cannot solve every problem for the kids, have we
thought about the OBs and OGs going to their former primary schools to mentor
and or give inspirational / motivational talks? If it is happening, please
forgive me and disregard this. Like someone alluded on this forum, who will
attend this university if none of our kids do not make the grades to qualify?
We all agree that, in order to make many changes in areas such as health,
environmental, agricultural, and socio-economical, it starts from or with
education. We also embrace the fact that working together can further our
efforts. Well, in the spirit of
taking the "challenge", Nile Care Inc. has been working to do just that, as
far as education is concerned. Check it out on their website
http://www.nilecareinc.org/ for more details. Join us, so we can broaden our
base in helping more rural primary schools. Thank you. Lina

Dear John

I am so impressed by your comment.
We have PhD holders in this forum and a lot of people with world class
analytical skills of developmental issues. In fact I have listed 6 of those
people whose intellectual aptitude in scrutinising issues in this forum
surpasses so many that  I created a special folder on my computer for all the
extraordinary discussions they opine on the forum. Just like you, I am waiting
with my fingers crossed to see how many of those who are eligible will take up
positions in Muni University as lecturers.

net talk good ideas as analyse issues here in the net with the interlectual
expertise they individually have but fail to deliver. Just imagine if these
ideas were a woman the community has identified to be pregnant and after nine
months this woman doesnt bring forth a child. .......... I think many of us
lack a spirit of sacrifice, because they think of their jobs and no one is
willing to pull his/her resources to employ the sons and daughters of West Nile
who could walk the many talks they offer. I am waiting to see? one person
living his or her paying job to come down on ground to help change the face of
West Nile educationally. ? John Anguyo
