Dear Friends,

If you went to Primary School or Secondary in the 1960's and 1960's, you
probably remember the names of chiefs we used to sing in Primary 3. I
never ever heard of Lugbara Agofe who was the central Chief (King).
Neither is there any historical records to prove Lugbara, Madi or Kakwa had
agofe. Many of you will remember the names of famous chiefs you heard
about were Noah Agikoa, Miria Andua, Juma, Boroa, etc.

I find it so ridiculous and insane that some individuals want to claim they
are Dynasty of Lugbara land. Do we really need these kind of Royal chiefs
or Agofe today for any purpose? Won't fixing the ailing healthcare system,
collapsing education system, poor economic underdevelopment of the common
people be more pragmatic than chasing chiefdom? What will chiefdom benefit
the ordinary men/women/children?

Unfortunately, most of the people chasing/craving for chiefdom are simply
craving to satisfy their ego and selfish ambitions. If you look back at
those tribes that have given Kings/kingdoms, what have they gained? What
does/How does the ordinary citizen benefit from these kingdom/chiefdom
stuff?

May be it's time for us to carefully think about our strategic development
goals in the 21st Century. Why are countries like India, China, Brazil,
South Africa, many countries in East Asia & South America, Eastern Europe
moving into developed world? Why are we Africans lagging behind World
 Development Index?
