On 18 Dec Air Uganda was the first airline to operate into Juba after opening of the airport to normal operations.It was followed by Air Rwanda and some other commercial international operators I can't recall (Egypt Air ostensibly). Kenya Airways, Fly Dubai and Fly 540 cancelled their regular schedules but they promised operations would resume shortly. A United States Air force C-130 also landed at Juba; two C-17 Globemasters Cargo jets were positioned on 18 Dec at Entebbe Airport ostensibly on a mission to support the humanitarian operations in Juba. Air Uganda operated two flights, in the morning and afternoon. There appears to be some normalcy returning to Juba even though the situation in Jonglei and Bentiu is precarious; three soldiers from the Indian Contingent based in Akobo were killed after militant elements entered the UN County Support Base and the bodies have been extracted and returned to Juba. As you may all be aware, the Uganda Government has also been taking necessary action in support of humanitarian operations in South Sudan,Chinese amongst Ugandans and other nationalities were also reportedly also evacuated by the Ugandan Airforce, I think this is one of the best approach to humanitarian support I have come to hear of......non discriminative !! With the increasing international concerns on the situation in the Republic of South Sudan, we can all hope that the situation will normalize and peace talks among the protagonists resume immediately; there are high hopes that the leaders are willing to engage on the negotiating table rather than the battle field option.
