Our condolences to the family of the late Mzee John Ssebaana Kizito.
They won't tell you that he is one of the best examples of indeginous
business success and economic empowerment since the founding of the real
Ugandan economy by President Idi Amin in 1972.
Mr. Ssebaana was also appointed Chairman of the National Insurance
Corporation by Amin, and served in that capacity until 1980 when the
tribalist Milton Obote regime appointed one of their own.
The late Ssebaana Kizito is someone whom Ugandan youths should emulate.
Young people mostly know him as former Mayor of the capital city Kampala,
and also former President of the Democratic party. But his long history of
service to this country is attached to the history of Uganda even before
independence, and his legacy of personal achievements is more commendable
than most Ugandans can show. With his untimely death, surely the country
greatly looses. It is therefore upon the nation he leaves behind to fill
the gap by stepping up to his calibre of decency, selfless perseverance,
restraint, intellect and measured action for the common good.
He served this country, and spent countless hours reflecting and striving
for what would be best for all the people of Uganda.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
