Hi there. I am new to this list (and wget) but would be grateful for any advice that
anyone may be able to provide.

I have a freeware Website which I have been runnng for some time in the UK - and have
recently set up some webspace under a sub-domain which is hosted on a separate server
in the USA. I would like the sub-domain site to become a US-mirror site for the
original UK site. I have intended to do this for some time - so have arranged the
directory structure of the original (main) Website so that all the files that need to
be mirrored can be found in one directory (and sub-directories) off this.

I understand that wget should be perfect for taking care of such mirroring - but
having downloaded the GNU archive file (and some additional documentation [wget.htm])
I am still at a bit of a loss as to how to get this all working.

In particular I have two questions:

(1) Does it matter which server wget is run on (original host vs mirror?) - or does
it need to be run on the mirror (destination) server - and pull / get files from the
host? (I do not yet know which server / ISP will be more amenable to installing this).

(2) Does wget have to be compiled on the server - e.g. something that the Systems /
Server Administrator needs to do - or is this something that an end user (Webmaster)
could do in his / her personal Webspace / cgi-bin?

I would be very grateful for any clarification that anyone might be able to offer
regarding the above.

Thanking you in anticipation.

With best wishes,
Yours sincerely,

Dr. Eldon Lehmann
