   As usual, it might help to know what you're using for wget
("wget -V"), and what you're using it on.  If you're using a version
older than 1.10.2, then you might wish to try the current released
version.

   Adding "-d" to the command may help to reveal what's happening. 
Seeing the actual program output might be more helpful than seeing your
description of it.
