Hi all,

Recently, I've read in the news the Google Summer of Code 2008 just kicks off.
And I came to think that it would be great for the Wget project to participate.

Firstly, that would 'advertise' about the project and let the world
know it needs C developers.
Secondly, that would allow the project to get full-time developers
during the summer, and keep them on the project afterwards.
Thirdly, as a consequence of the second point, that would allow the
next release to be ready sooner.

Today, Micah is the only active developer, and has still the
administrative work to do, all that during his spare time.
I am sure he would accept a handfull of new co-developers.
When announcing the 1.11 release, he listed some short and long term
improvements for Wget.
All those improvements, together with the others bugs make a great
source for student's proposal.
And being myself a student I would be glad to spend my summer working
full-time on Wget.

Numerous Open-Source projects already took advantages from this program.
The GNU Project proposed projects in 2006, 2007 and this year too. Why
not add the Wget project to the list?
Application are still open.

The GSoC FAQ is available here: http://code.google.com/soc/2008/faqs.html

Micah, how do you think about this?

Thanks,
Julien.
