CRITICAL SECURITY TIPS, TACTICS & TECHNIQUES - FREE
========================================================
It's fairly simple: If something goes wrong with your current
security infrastructure, and you're on the hook to face the
consequences, it won't be pretty. Don't go it alone! Stop the threat
of a hack attack with expert tips, tactics and techniques at the FREE
Security Decisions conference June 19-21 in Chicago, hosted by
searchSecurity. Full conference benefits at:

WHAT'S NEW AT WHATIS.COM

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
We answer the mail (usually)

Mail. (Of course, we mean e-mail.) We get lots of mail every day,
and we actually try to answer most of it. Since the world is our
audience, we've received mail from people in over 65 countries and we
stopped keeping track of that some time ago. Like most Web sites
with a large audience, we get a certain number of thank-you notes and
quite a few suggestions for improvement and not as often as you might
expect the occasional crank or at least cranky note. We do our best
to answer all of these, consistent with the principle of
self-preservation (we have to leave some time for writing new
definitions!). We admit that some slip through and don't get
answered in spite of better intentions.

Usually, with a few exceptions, we don't take the time to answer
those who report a new file format suffix for our "Every file format
in the world" feature. The mail for this feature, by the way,
represents about a third of the mail that we get. We do always try
to answer requests for reuse of our content, reports on how you did
on one of our quizzes, suggestions for improvement, press inquiries,
stories of how whatis.com saved your job (!), and corrections. We do
take corrective notes seriously and often make fixes quickly.

We should acknowledge that we don't currrently do a good job of
tracking suggestions for new terms. While we often, in fact, do use
the suggestion and write and add a new definition, we often don't get
back to the suggestor to acknowledge it. It's one of our "Needs
improvement" areas. On the other hand, reader suggestions for new
terms carry a lot of weight and we pay attention to them.

It would be an overstatement to say that we can't live with the mail
we get even if we can't answer it all, but we certainly couldn't live
without it. It keeps us connected to you, our much-respected reader
and user. Please keep the mail coming!

By the way, if all you need is an expert answer to a problem, try one
of ours at...

A new quiz about Security Attacks

Here's a sneak preview of Quiz #25, which we'll add to our home page
within the next day or two. It's about the various forms of
nefarious attack to which your or your company's Web site or server
may be subject to. It just may send a shiver up your spine.

Site-of-the-Week: SearchDomino

The Tiger Woods of Web sites about Lotus Domino, Notes, and iNotes is
SearchDomino, which was also not only one of the first sites devoted
to Domino but also one of the very first TechTarget sites. Like
Tiger Woods, SearchDomino is still not very old, but old enough to be
better that everybody else. Well, enough of this analogy. The truth
is that you're only going to look at this Web site if you really need
to - and you'll know when that is. And then you'll be glad you know
about it.
