A mebibyte...well, we're not going to tell you any more than that since we've just (and finally) added a definition that is, in fact, called "Kibi, mebi, gibi, tebi, and all that." It complements the one we already have about kilo, mega, and other decimal multipliers. If you haven't seen "kibibyte" being used yet, it may just be early. Actually, for several years, these new binary prefixes have been an international standard that no one has really been paying any attention to. But you never know when someone big might start taking the standard seriously and others might quickly follow suit. Here's the definition we just added: http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/0,,sid9_gci825099,00.html This may be unfairly hypothetical, but let us ask you: Would you find these prefixes helpful once you got used to seeing and using them? Or would you be even more confused? We'd be interested to hear what you think. _______________________________________________________________ :::::::::: NEWS FROM OUR TECHTARGET COMMUNITY OF SITES ::::::::: =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Featured Site: SearchSolaris Featured Topic: Solaris 9 launches tomorrow, May 22; product manager to answer questions here Thursday SearchSolaris is rife with news about the Solaris 9 impending launch announcement and is bringing Bill Moffitt, Sun's Solaris 9 Product Line Manager, to a live, online question-and-answer session on Thursday.
