64-bit computing software If you need more performance or are developing new applications, you may want to consider migrating from 32-bits to 64-bits. In a monotonic DAC, the analog output always increases or remains constant as the digital input increases. The analog output never decreases during the input sequence. If the analog output decreases at any point during the input sequence, a DAC is said to be non-monotonic. Monotonicity is an important characteristic in many communications applications in which DACs are used. Such applications can function in the presence of nonlinearity, but not in the presence of non-monotonicity. The term derives from monotonic mathematical functions, also known as non-decreasing functions, in which the value of the dependent variable never decreases as the value of the independent variable increases. ______________________ SELECTED LINKS: Electronic Design discusses important characteristics of DACs. http://www.elecdesign.com/Articles/Index.cfm?ArticleID=3300 ______________________ RELATED TERMS: digital-to-analog converter http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/0,,sid9_gci213875,00.html analog http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/0,,sid9_gci211561,00.html digital http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/0,,sid9_gci211948,00.html nonlinearity http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/0,,sid9_gci530501,00.html ______________________ TODAY'S TECH NEWS: FORRESTER: ADDING CHANNELS WILL CLEAR THE WAY FOR 802.11A A proposal by the Federal Communications Commission to add channels to the 802.11a wireless communication standard has the potential to resolve some issues that have impeded the adoption of wireless technology, says an analyst from Forrester Research. http://searchnetworking.techtarget.com/qna/0,289202,sid7_gci913918,00.html ANALYST: STOPPING SPAM IS FOR THE SECURITY ADMIN Is spam a security administrator's problem?
