It must contain at least one Structured Query Language (SQL) statement. Autonomous transactions allow a single transaction to be subdivided into multiple commit/rollback transactions, each of which will be tracked for auditing purposes. When an autonomous transaction is called, the original transaction (calling transaction) is temporarily suspended. The autonomous transaction must commit or roll back before it returns control to the calling transaction. Once changes have been made by an autonomous transaction, those changes are visible to other transactions in the database. Autonomous transactions can be nested. That is, an autonomous transaction can operate as a calling transaction, initializing other autonomous transactions within itself. In theory, there is no limit to the possible number of nesting levels. ______________________ RELATED TERMS: Oracle http://searchoracle.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid41_gci214534,00.html transaction http://searchcio.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid19_gci213213,00.html Structured Query Language http://searchdatabase.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid13_gci214230,00.html roll back http://searchdatabase.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid13_gci212917,00.html ______________________ SELECTED LINKS: CNETAsia discusses how autonomous transactions work. http://asia.cnet.com/itmanager/tech/0,39006407,39118601-2,00.htm SearchOracle.com provides more information about Oracle's products and concepts. http://www.searchoracle.com/ ______________________ TODAY'S TECH NEWS: EXCHANGE 2003 AVAILABLE EARLY FOR SOME MS CUSTOMERS Microsoft's Open License customers will receive Exchange 2003 on Friday, a few months before it becomes generally available. http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/originalContent/0,289142,sid1_gci917335,00.html VENDORS SQUARE OFF OVER WIDENESS OF ULTRA WIDEBAND Many believe the short-range wireless technology could one day replace USB and make cords all but extinct, but the technology's future is a subject of intense debate. http://searchmobilecomputing.techtarget.com/originalContent/0,289142,sid40_gci916996,00.html WINDOWS RPC VULNERABILITY HIGH ON LIST OF FLAWS TO WATCH Anxious administrators have more evidence they should patch the critical Windows Remote Procedure Call flaw immediately before a worm strikes. http://searchsecurity.techtarget.com/originalContent/0,289142,sid14_gci917224,00.html >> Catch up on all the latest IT news at http://searchtechtarget.techtarget.com/ ______________________ Information Kit | Linux, Unix, and all the little ixes Get up to speed quickly, and be the Linux/Unix Know-IT-All at your office. http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/0,,sid9_gci915803,00.html ______________________ Secret Word-of-the-Day | What is it?
