Print servers are used in both large enterprise and small or home office (SOHO) networks. In a large organization, a single dedicated computer serving as a print server might manage hundreds of printers. In a small office, a print server is often a specialized plug-in board or small network device about the size of a hub that performs the same function as a dedicated print server, but frees up valuable disk space on the office's limited number of computers. ______________________ RELATED TERMS: queue http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/0,,sid9_gci212852,00.html SOHO http://searchmobilecomputing.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid40_gci214222,00.html _____________________ SELECTED LINKS: SearchNetworking.com has a tip called "Manage your print servers." http://searchnetworking.techtarget.com/tip/1,289483,sid7_gci906570,00.html Microsoft's TechNet has a resource for "Designing and Deploying Print Servers." http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/prodtechnol/windowsserver2003/proddocs/deployguide/sdccd_psv_zrnr.asp This white paper from LANpress explains how a print server device benefits a small or home office. http://www.castelle.com/products/lanpress/sohowhite-paper.htm#_Toc400119484 ______________________ TODAY'S TECH NEWS: SIMPLE STEPS STEM SOBIG-F'S PROGRESS Administrators take note.
