A non-profit subsidiary of the Uniform Code Council (developers of the UPC code), UCCnet provides a global repository where enterprises can register item data and share standardized, synchronized supply chain information. The lack of data synchronization has long been one of the major stumbling blocks hampering the adoption of e-commerce. According to UCCnet, as much as $50 billion dollars is wasted each year by companies dealing with inaccurate or outdated item information. The organization promotes industry-wide adoption of standards for data.
